Serious Adverse Health Events, Including Death, Associated with Ingesting Alcohol-Based Hand Sanitizers Containing Methanol — Arizona and New Mexico, May–June 2020

Fifteen cases of methanol poisoning associated with ingesting alcohol-based hand sanitizers were reported in Arizona and New Mexico between May and June 2020, resulting in four deaths and three cases of vision impairment. The report highlights the danger of ingesting hand sanitizers, especially those containing methanol, and emphasizes the importance of public health messaging and clinical awareness for early diagnosis and treatment.

National guideline for the field triage of injured patients: Recommendations of the National Expert Panel on Field Triage, 2021

This paper presents the 2021 field triage guideline for injured patients, a simplified, evidence-based revision designed for civilian EMS systems. The guideline features two main categories of triage criteria based on risk (high and moderate) and prioritizes ease of use in the field to enhance adherence and ultimately reduce undertriage.

Clonal hematopoiesis is associated with risk of severe Covid-19

This study discovered that people with clonal hematopoiesis (CH), a common blood condition in older folks, are more likely to experience severe COVID-19. It appears that non-driver CH mutations, rather than specific cancer-related ones, are the main culprits, possibly affecting how our immune system deals with infections. This link also extends to other serious infections like C. difficile and Streptococcus/Enterococcus, especially in cancer patients.
