Magnetically induced convection enhances water electrolysis in microgravity

This study demonstrates that magnets can significantly improve water electrolysis efficiency in microgravity, by enhancing gas bubble detachment and movement through magnetohydrodynamic and magnetic polarization forces. Two proof-of-concept devices were developed: a proton-exchange membrane electrolyser and a magnetohydrodynamic drive, both demonstrating near-terrestrial performance in microgravity without moving parts.

Battery energy storage technologies overview

The paper reviews six battery technologies (lead-acid, lithium-ion, nickel-cadmium, nickel-metal hydride, sodium-sulfur, and vanadium-redox flow) for grid-scale energy storage applications, comparing them based on various technical characteristics. It concludes that each technology has its own advantages and disadvantages, making it suitable for specific use cases but no single technology is universally superior.

Deep Reinforcement Learning Based Real-time AC Optimal Power Flow Considering Uncertainties

This paper uses deep reinforcement learning to develop a faster method for controlling power flow in AC power grids, taking into account uncertainties like renewable energy fluctuations and equipment outages. The AI agent trained is able to make near-optimal decisions much faster than traditional methods, showing potential for real-time grid management.

Research on Modeling and the Operation Strategy of a Hydrogen-Battery Hybrid Energy Storage System for Flexible Wind Farm Grid-Connection

The paper proposes a hydrogen-battery hybrid energy storage system (HESS) for smoothing power fluctuations from wind farms and enabling flexible grid connection. A control strategy minimizing fluctuations, battery wear, and energy loss is developed and compared to a battery-only system, showing better performance in simulations. However, more realistic system constraints and economic analysis are needed to fully validate the approach.

Saviztky-Golay Filtering for Solar Power Smoothing and Ramp Rate Reduction Based on Controlled Battery Energy Storage

This paper investigates the use of Savitzky-Golay filtering combined with battery energy storage to smooth solar power fluctuations and reduce ramp rates. The results suggest that this method can achieve good smoothing performance with less battery usage compared to moving average, low-pass, and Gaussian filters, but further analysis with more datasets and cost considerations is needed.

An overview of water electrolysis technologies for green hydrogen production

The review explores different water electrolysis technologies for green hydrogen production, emphasizing the potential of anion exchange membrane (AEM) electrolyzers due to their cost-effectiveness and use of non-noble metal catalysts. While AEM electrolyzers show promise, challenges related to membrane stability and system-level integration need to be addressed for large-scale commercialization.
